Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Update #1

March 6, 2020

AFCEA Washington, DC continues to monitor and assess new developments pertaining to the Novel Coronavirus originating in China. The health and safety of our attendees is our top priority.

We strongly encourage attendees to follow the guidance of the CDC for everyday preventative actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses.

  • Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
  • If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when sick.
  • Cover a cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.

In addition, we suggest visiting the World Health Organization and Center for Disease Control websites which are constantly being updated with the latest information and tips.
